Questions have arisen about Tauranga trials where InterRAI was compared to a more well known NASC assessment tool in a study called TOPCAT. A review of the trial by Auckland University revealed significant cost differences when comparing InterRAI & NASC recommendations. These were not included in the TOPCAT conclusions. In January 2011 Healthcare Help members were hurting from high costs of audits in NZ . They felt there was a better way to bring compliance with Certification standards. We got together & sent a report to Technical Advisory Committee to Auditor General's Office via committee member. The report showed how the cost of audits for each resthome had risen to a minimum of $35,000 / 3 years & we demanded better value for precious healthcare dollars. Since then, government audit agency Healthshare has entered the market & set their price at around $3,500 for a straightforward 2 auditor day audit - other audit agencies are dropping their prices to match or seeing clients transfer - we beleive we influenced this change.! Two audit agencies have ceased to audit aged care.
